The Big Apple? More like “The Big Uber,” right!?
A new report from the New York Post reveals that there are now more Uber cars and SUVs on NYC roads (14,088) than regular yellow cabs (13,587).
Despite these eye-popping New York numbers, statistics released by the company in January
show that Los Angeles, by a wide margin, actually has the most active
Uber drivers, with San Francisco edging out NYC for second.
Unlike
Los Angeles, however, San Francisco and NYC also offer UberT, which can
hail a nearby yellow taxi right from the Uber app for a small fee in
addition to the cab fare.
With driver recruitment competition heating up
between Uber and rival ride service Lyft, we can’t imagine NYC yellow
cabs will be taking back the majority of road space anytime soon. So
next time you’re in the city and looking for a scoop, make sure to have
your smartphone on you. (If you’re willing to pay a little extra for a
ride, that is.)
